Teen Therapy
With Julie Gerber, MA, AMFT, APCC
Working as a therapist in a high school has given me a unique perspective about how to help teens and families connect during a challenging stage of life.
Wondering if your teen’s behavior is typical?
Has the child you once knew has suddenly become distant or hard to reach?
Teenagers are in the midst of becoming themselves while still depending on the adults who love them. That tension can show up as conflict at home, slipping grades, or choices that leave parents worried.
Therapy helps make sense of what is happening so your teen and your family can move forward with more understanding, insight, and connection.
Parents Reach Out When Their Teen Experiences:
Family tensions
Anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns
Challenges at school
Friendship struggles
Big life changes
Identity questions and exploration
Misunderstood feelings
Teen years are complicated.
When things feel overwhelming, involving a neutral, supportive adult makes a big difference.
How Teen Therapy With Me Works
Therapy with me acts as a bridge between your teen’s growing independence and a parent’s desire to stay connected.
The first step is always building a relationship with your teen, listening without judgment, and being that empathetic person they know is in their corner.. Once trust is there, what they share with me is confidential. I include parents when appropriate so families can practice healthier communication and support together.
My approach is casual, nurturing, trauma-informed, and collaborative. Together we help teens move from reacting in the moment to understanding and reflecting on what they feel and why.
Approaches I Use
-
Looks at early relationships and family dynamics so teens can understand how connection shapes their behavior and emotions.
-
Helps teens identify thought patterns that fuel anxiety, stress, or conflict and develop healthier ways to respond.
-
Explores deeper emotional patterns so teens can better understand themselves.
-
Helps teens slow down, regulate emotions, and stay grounded during stressful situations.
-
Focuses on what your teen is already capable of so they can build confidence and resilience.
Reconnect As A Family
When teens feel understood, things begin to shift.
After Teen Therapy With Me, Families Report:

More insight
Calmer interactions
Teens feeling like themselves
Understanding of emotions
Stronger friendships

About Julie Gerber, MA, AMFT, APCC
My therapy is designed to help teens and families understand each other again. Adolescence is a time of rapid emotional growth, and the right support can make that transition much easier for everyone involved.
Before becoming a therapist, I was a licensed California attorney. That background has given me unique insight into how challenging relationships can be, whether with family, friends, or professional colleagues.
Clients often describe me as warm, compassionate, and easy to talk to. In our sessions, I try to be an accurate mirror for what is happening beneath the surface and help connect dots you may not have seen yet.
I have worked with teens in a high school setting and volunteered with Teen Line, a crisis line run by teens for teens. I’m also a mom to three boys (2 teens and a tween) which gives me insight into the challenges of raising kids in today’s world, and I feel uniquely positioned to offer guidance when you’re unsure of your next steps. Outside of therapy, I love running, reading, and listening to audiobooks on long walks (when I have the time).
Availability: I work with clients via Telehealth across California.
